spca-LA Names Celebrity Ambassador for Animals

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2007 -- Celebrity attorney, author, and actress Vicki Roberts (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2399449/) has been named by the animal protection organization, spca-LA (http://www.spcala.com/) (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Los Angeles), as one of their high profile ambassadors to spread the news about animal care, welfare, and safety. She is also a preeminent member of spca-LA's well known entertainment advisory committee. Roberts has committed to spread the word throughout the entertainment community and at large as to the need for disaster preparedness for pets and has agreed to serve as an ambassador for this 130 year old organization.

Her mission is to ensure that its disaster response team can provide immediate relief and rescue during natural disasters and other crises. Roberts hopes that by soliciting needed funds for the spcaLA, more animals will be protected and saved through community and individual education and outreach. For direct information about spcaLA please go to www.spcaLA.com or call 1-888-SPCA-LA1 (1-888-772-2521). Contributions can be sent directly to the spca-LA at 5026 West Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90016.

Madeline Bernstein, President of spca-LA, states, "It is only due to the efforts of committed individuals, like Vicki Roberts, that our pets have a chance to survive during times of crises. We saw in Louisiana how many were lost during hurricane Katrina because their safety and rescue were not part of a disaster plan. We are thrilled to have Vicki Roberts on board in our efforts to aid our animals in need."

Roberts states, "I am both humbled and honored to have the privilege of representing spca-LA and to bring its mission to the world community. It is through spca-LA's untiring efforts that we can ensure better safety, rescue, and care for our beloved best friends, the animals, who deserve no less than our unmitigated support and effort during times of crises and disaster. Animal rescue and care must be part of every city's disaster preparedness plan."

Being an animal lover comes naturally to Vicki Roberts (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2399449/), who has a pack of pets including a dog, two cats and a couple of cockatiels. She is passionate about animals and animal causes and over the years has donated thousands of dollars to animal charities around the world including the Doris Day Animal League, People Helping Horses, African Wildlife Foundation, American Humane Society and Best Friends Animal Society. Vicki most recently was invited to the first-ever International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Animal Action Awards where she honored supporters of animals and animal rights worldwide.

In connection with her role as honorary board member for the spca-LA, Vicki Roberts and President Madeline Bernstein recently honored the long-time animal lover and The Price Is Right king, Bob Barker. She and Bernstein jointly gave Mr. Barker an award for his animal activism on the set of one of his last shows hosting The Price Is Right.

In the early 1990's, Vicki volunteered for the Amanda Foundation (an organization dedicated to dog and cat rescue) by visiting with the dogs and cats that were waiting for adoption and were housed at a local vet's office. Her job was to take each one of them out for a time and play and cuddle with them. She would remove them individually from their cages and sit on the floor with them and give them one-on-one time. One in particular stole her heart, and that one became her beloved dog, the late Jesse Fea Roberts. (Visit to http://www.restmycase.com and click on Jesse to read the tribute.)

Celebrity attorney turned actress, Vicki Roberts can be seen on television guest-starring in five separate court cases on the new show, Jury Duty (http://www.juryduty.tv/), that will be aired randomly throughout the 2007-2008 season. She can also be seen guest-starring in the new film, Being Michael Madsen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0875575/), starring Michael Madsen, Virginia Madsen and Darryl Hannah which recently premiered overseas at the Raindance Film Festival in London and domestically at the Starz Denver International Film Festival. Her full length feature documentary entitled Through Your Eyes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0960862/), in which she guest stars in addition to being the Executive Producer, is scheduled for release at the end of the year.
