Veterinarians Around Nation Join Protect the Pets™, Pledge Code of Conduct to Help Pet Owners Find Trustworthy Care

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- Pet owners are finally getting a clearer way to choose their veterinarians, and find trustworthy care. Protect the Pets™ - the national movement of veterinary professionals and pet owners promoting high quality veterinary medicine that values pets over profits - has recruited its first group of pioneer member veterinarians.

Thirty two veterinarians from around the United States have joined as Protect the Pets™ members, pledging to practice according to the Protect the Pets™ Code of Conduct - a set of 12 tenets that promise trustworthy, ethical care of pets that values pets over profits. Sample tenets include:

- I will never put money before the life or health of an animal.
- I will treat all people associated with my practice with respect: my patients, my staff, my customers and my colleagues, salespeople and wildlife rehabilitators.
- I will research the latest pain management drugs and treatments so that no pet suffers needlessly.
- I will always conduct the financial business of my practice in a lawful and ethical way.

"Pet owners have no basis for comparison or real way to differentiate the quality and standard of care between veterinarians," says Dr. Robb. "Pet owners can feel secure in knowing where a Protect the Pets™ veterinarian's heart it. They've affiliated themselves with something they strongly believe in, and I'm honored to be joined by these professionals."

Protect the Pets™ was established in Fall 2006 by Connecticut veterinarian Dr. John Robb to identify and recruit veterinary professionals who value the health of pets over the drive for profits, and to educate the public about the realities of unsafe veterinary medicine. He believes that when profitability becomes the dominant influence in the decisions of a veterinary practice, the health and safety of animals is compromised and pets are put in peril.

Pet owners can find a full listing and links to Protect the Pets™ veterinarians at www.protectthepets.com, where they will also find an online community that offers information resources, such as tips on evaluating a practice, a Pet Talk forum, blog, articles on hot topics in animal care and Protect the Pets™ merchandise.

Dr. Robb is actively recruiting veterinarians and is encouraging the pet owning public to help raise awareness. He has included recruitment materials on the website so that pet owners can invite their own veterinarians to join.

"This is a grassroots movement, and we need the support of people who are passionate and dedicated to the safe care of our pets." For more information on how you can help, visit www.protectthepets.com or contact Dr. Robb at drrobb@protectthepets.com or 203-312-9419.

About Dr. John Robb

Dr. John Robb has been practicing veterinarian medicine for over twenty years, and runs the Farmington Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Avon, Connecticut. Throughout his career, he has held an unwavering commitment to pets over profits. He has experienced first-hand the toxic effect of the drive for productivity and profitability on animal care. His unwillingness to observe the unspoken "rules" among veterinarians that emphasize protecting the vet over protecting the pet, has earned him the love and respect of pet owners. While some in the industry want to silence him, he has become a voice and a leader for the majority of animal care professionals who want to live their passion and provide the very best in care to our animal companions.
